Several decades ago, when I came into the ministry out of the business world, a lovely lady minister with whom I worked briefly asked me to help with her correspondence. When she saw some of the letters I had prepared she said, “These are fine, but put some love into them.” In answering her mail I had observed the letter of the law, but had overlooked including the spirit of love.
Putting God first financially on a regular, consistent basis is a sure way to release the prospering power of love – provided you deliberately put love into your acts of giving. Be sure to tithe with love. People sometimes tithe to observe the letter of the law, but do not reap its full benefits when they have not done so in a spirit of love.
It is easy to put love into your giving when you realize that the first tenth of all you receive belongs to God anyway; and that you are merely returning to Him the sacred tenth of all He has and is giving to you. “The tenth is holy unto Jehovah.” – Leviticus 27:32
This realization takes the fear and resentment out of giving. Instead, it puts love of God, and appreciation for His many blessings, into your acts of sharing. “Thou shall remember Jehovah thy God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth.” – Deuteronomy 8:18
